Rehearsal that becomes performance

A practical checklist for turning isolated practice into a complete little show.

Practice the whole journey

Begin with your props put away. Take them out, invite a spectator, give the opening line, perform, receive the reaction, and put everything away. A trick includes the moments around the method.

Change one variable

Try a rehearsal standing rather than seated. Then change the distance or lighting. Keep a brief note of what became difficult. Adjust one thing and repeat. For technical handlings, use the angles recommended by your teacher.

Plan a graceful recovery

Decide what you will say if a card is forgotten or an instruction misunderstood. A friendly reset is better than blaming your spectator. Do not invent a complicated rescue during a first performance.

Invite useful feedback

Ask a willing friend: What did you think was happening? Where did you lose the thread? What moment stayed with you? Listen before defending a choice.

Leave room for people

Practice gives you attention to spare. Spend it on your audience: their comfort, pace, and reactions. That is the point of getting the mechanics out of the way.

Original practice and performance guidance.
